Monofilament Netting Conversion Notes

Monofilament mesh size measurements are expressed as stretched mesh (center of knot to center of knot). Depth is given in number of meshes, and length is specified in fathoms or yards when stretched.

  • 1 Fathom = 6 Feet (1.8288 Meters)
  • Stretched Mesh = 2 x Square Mesh Size
  • Tensile strength decreases ~10% after prolonged UV exposure without treatment

Spool & Reel Spooling Guidance

When spooling high-diameter monofilament onto commercial longline reels, maintain steady tension (approx 15-20% of break rating) to avoid line binding under deep-water drag.
